GlobalSportsJobs: When was your big break in your career?

Charlie Dundas: “Meeting someone at a party who had just gone through the IMG internship – he put me in touch with the person running the programme and I got on to it.  I’ve been in sports ever since, and he is now my son’s godfather!”

GlobalSportsJobs: What is the best piece of career advice you have ever received?

CD: “Don’t do something you don’t enjoy – you spend most of your time working, so don’t make it a chore.”

GlobalSportsJobs: What is the biggest challenge you have faced in your career?

CD: “Finding the right opportunity to help me further my career. Deciding when I had been at MediaCom long enough and then securing the right role to move forward in was a huge challenge.”

GlobalSportsJobs: What is the most difficult decision you have ever taken in your career?

CD: “Leaving MediaCom. A great company and one with huge potential, though ultimately not a potential that matched my personal ambitions.”

GlobalSportsJobs: Tell us about Repucom – what is its role in the industry?

CD: “Repucom has a unique position in that our information and data is equally applicable and valuable to both rights-holders and brands involved in sponsorship.  Our mission is to create consistent, credible accountability in the industry and we have made significant investments in our technology, resources and infrastructure to drive that goal.”

GlobalSportsJobs: What sort of qualities do you look for in an applicant for a job?

CD: “I like people to be diligent in their work, take responsibility for their output and to show drive, determination and inquisitiveness. No one gets everything right all the time, so it is crucial to be able to admit to mistakes but also to feel empowered to challenge people around you. My aim is to foster an environment in which that can (and does) happen.

GlobalSportsJobs: What do you believe is the key ingredient to putting together a successful team of staff members?

CD: “Firstly, I think it is key to identify weaknesses or gaps in knowledge and looking to fill those. If you have good people with complimentary skill sets, doing the jobs to which they are best suited then you should get a strong team.”

GlobalSportsJobs: What would be your key piece of advice for someone starting out in the sports industry?

CD: “Be prepared to work hard and start in a junior role, but try to set clear targets for where you want to be in three years’ time.”

GlobalSportsJobs: What are your future career aspirations?

CD: “Ensure that Repucom UK lives up to its ambition of being a true partner to our clients and a successful business within a strong global network.”
