The free online course (in English) on sport sponsorship given by the Johan Cruyff Institute, together with the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and in collaboration with GlobalSportsJobs, has had over 2,000 students enrolled in just two editions.
The interest in learning the basics of this marketing technique applied to the world of sport has reached all corners of the globe, from Europe (the majority community with 44% of students), to Asia (18%), United States (18%), Africa (8.5%), India (6.2%) and Oceania (2%).
The classes given by Richard Denton, professor at the Johan Cruyff Institute and sport marketing consultant with 20 years of experience in the sector, and the involvement of coach Pep Guardiola in the course, have drawn the attention mainly of people with higher education (41% are graduates) and in full-time employment. Although it is a completely free course, the teaching methodology and the quality of the content presented were the two aspects most valued by students.
The course is an initiative by the Johan Cruyff Institute, along with GlobalSportsJobs, to facilitate access to training for the professionalisation of the sport sector and will be available until December in successive five-week editions. The aim of the course is to introduce students to the world of sport sponsorship and give them the basic knowledge required to develop a real project: the activation of a sponsorship for a 'Cruyff Court' of the Cruyff Foundation. The best activation plan will be announced in January 2017 and will be awarded a scholarship to study an Online Postgraduate at the Johan Cruyff Institute.
