Sir Ian McGeechan is widely regarded as one of the foremost international rugby coaches of his generation. As a coach at club and international level, including five British and Irish Lions Tours, his ability to mix tactical acumen with robust leadership has enabled him and his teams to achieve great success.

A player of supreme talent, Sir Ian McGeechan made his debut for Scotland in 1972 and won thirty-two caps, playing at fly-half and centre. He toured with the British and Irish Lions in 1974 going through 22 games unbeaten, and triumphing 3–0 in the test open series. However, it has been Sir Ian’s coaching prowess that has earned him the most plaudits, winning a Grand Slam victory in the Five Nations Championship in 1990 and two British and Irish Lions tours in 1989 & 1997.

Sir Ian McGeechan is an experienced coach and man manager. He emphasises the need to empower performers and trusts them to execute their skills. This trust allows allows the people around him to respond with their best efforts. The confidence he has in his teams works both ways and as a result he is afforded space to use his tactical nous to full effect, masterminding clear and complete strategic outcomes.
